Volunteer with LOEX!
LOEX has multiple opportunities for you to participate in helping run the organization and its many events. These include
LOEX Advisory Council:
- Every spring, LOEX puts out a call for interest for those who wish to serve on the LOEX Advisory Council. This group helps give advice to the LOEX Director about the direction of LOEX and what initiatives and tasks it undertakes. In addition, it helps actively execute some of those tasks, such as:
- Co-chairs of the LOEX Fall Focus (after first serving as a member of the committee for a previous Fall Focus)
- Various editor positions for the LOEX Quarterly (e.g., Assistant editor; book review; interview)
- Assistant editor of the LOEX Currents
- LOEX Community Ambassador
- Marketing and Member Communications
...and more
Terms on the advisory council are three years (e.g., July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2029). If you are interested, please make sure you are signed up for the LOEX E-list and look for our call for interest each spring.
LOEX Conference Committee and Volunteers:
- Each LOEX conference, whether it is the annual spring conference or the every-other-year Fall Focus, is run by volunteers. If you are interested in your area hosting a LOEX conference, please email the LOEX Director to express your interest and find out more (e.g., type of facilities needed; hotel requirements; ease of travel).
Service on the LOEX Committee for the two co-chairs starts 18 months before the conference, as the hotel options need to be evaluated, and once the contract is signed (which will be done by the LOEX Director), then the conference theme & imagery (e.g., a logo) needs to be selected. Then, in the summer, the full local conference committee gets invited and once that group of 8-9 people starts working in earnest in August/September, there is work to be done until the conference occurs in May.
- If you are not available or interested in serving on a committee for multiple months, but would like to volunteer for the conference, please look on the conference website for that particular year and reach out to one of the co-chairs, They will put your in contact with the local conference committee volunteer lead, and determine if there is a role for you (typically, we need room moderators).
